The University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) Library has selected the Summon® service from Serials Solutions to provide improved discovery of the library’s vast collections – including more than 2.6 million volumes and 60,000 serial titles which are mostly in electronic format.  As a member of the Consortium of Academic Research Libraries in Illinois (CARLI), the University of Illinois Chicago also has access to search across the catalogs of 76 Illinois libraries via the I-Share union catalog.  Serials Solutions is committed to helping UIC make the I-Share catalog content searchable within the Summon service.

“The Summon service offers our users the opportunity to discover and use a much higher proportion of the materials we've acquired on their behalf. We're very enthusiastic about unveiling more of our electronic content in a single search that also retrieves print holdings, not only from our library but from our partners in the CARLI consortium," said Jay H. Lambrecht, associate university librarian, University of Illinois at Chicago.

The University of Illinois Chicago becomes the latest member of the Association of Research Libraries (ARL) to select the Summon service, which is now the chosen discovery service for more than 30% of ARL academic libraries. The UIC Library supports the teaching, research and service mission of the University. While its primary mission is to serve the university community, the library is open to all users, and readers in the library buildings have access to all print and electronic resources owned or licensed by UIC, which makes discovering these materials in a comprehensive, user-friendly way a priority. UIC has two library locations on the Chicago campus, as well as three medical libraries on the Peoria, Rockford, and Urbana campuses. The Summon service is openly available to all UIC Library users whether working in a library or remotely.
