Meet Talia Kaye! Talia has been with Serials Solutions for three years and currently works as a Software Support Analyst. In this position, she works with our Summon Implementation Managers to handle technical questions from new Summon clients about anything – from their MARC records to their user interfaces. Additionally, she creates and configures new Summon sites and updates existing ones.
I received my MLIS from the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee with a concentration in the Organization of Information through their distance education program while I was living in Seattle. Prior to that, I received a B.A. in Art History and a B.A. in Italian Language and Literature from the University of Washington.
After graduate school, I interned at Seattle Public Library and assisted in creating their first online collection for the centennial of the Alaska-Yukon-Pacific Exposition. After that, I became a temporary employee and assisted in the creation of a second project, the Northwest Art Collection. Currently, I work in Client Support for new Summon implementations at Serials Solutions.
I feel lucky that I get to work with librarians as clients and solve problems all day.
I think the most interesting thing to watch is the changing role of libraries and librarians. I am of the mindset that as books become less wedded to a specific format, physical libraries will move more towards concentrating on special collections and local history materials as well as concentrate on strengthening their role as gathering places for the community with enriching and educational programming. Librarians will always have an important role to play in the organization and access of information.
I have a lot of favorites; it just depends on my mood and stage of life. Favorites have been Joseph Heller, J.R.R. Tolkien, Margaret Atwood, Patrick O’Brian and John Steinbeck. When I like a book, I tend to read a bunch of things by that author in succession. Recent favorites have veered more towards Sci-Fi/Cyberpunk/Steampunk . I have been reading a lot of China Miéville lately.
Well, I have loved visiting libraries like New York Public and the National Library of France but there’s a special place in my heart for the Central branch of Seattle Public.
