Meet Ashley Bass! Ashley has been with Serials Solutions for more than 5 years and currently works as a product manager for Serials Solutions advanced management services.
I have been with Serials Solutions in a number of capacities for over 5 years, and I consider that my most significant professional background! Prior to working at Serials Solutions, I worked in publishing (again, in a variety of capacities) and in Marketing (at the University of Washington Business School, among other places). I also have spent a lot of professional time in the service industry (for instance, I took a two year break between Marketing jobs and lived in Maui where I worked at the Ritz-Carlton Pool Bar and wrote for a local family magazine), and I teach fitness classes as well. Basically, if it’s busy and I get to talk and/or write a lot, I like to do it!
I love the people in the company and the location, so it’s easy to come to work every day. But what I like most about working for Serials Solutions is how interesting the work we do and the problems we solve are, and I love talking to librarians about those challenges and about our services. I have been fortunate that my positions at the company give me lots of opportunities to interact with clients and libraries, as well as employees of a wide variety of departments here, and the concern people have for the library mission and the company mission is highly motivating.
The opportunity to leverage technology and library professionalism/librarian creativity to transform the way patrons interact with the library to get the information they need.
Yikes! This is so hard to answer. I love to read weeklies, like the New Yorker, because I am exposed to many different authors and writing styles, that fits my interests best. If I had to pick an all-time favorite, it’d be Kurt Vonnegut: practical, critical, honest and observant, creative and totally hilarious.
I like the Greenwood Branch “Libary” (no R) of the Seattle Public Library System because it’s where I go with my kids, which is really a joyful way to spend time. It’s also where I where I pick up all of the fabulous items I have requested!
